The Sayan Ayung River Valley Villa & Yoga Retreat Center
The island of Bali is famous for its rich culture of dance, artistry and religious festivity. The cultural center of Bali is widely recognized as the town of Ubud; however, Ubud itself is quite busy and crowded. To be near Ubud and yet in the quietude of a nearby village, with a spectacular view of an enormous river valley can give you the very best of Bali. About The House Our Sayan village house is a beautiful wood house that fits gracefully into the powerful environment it is built on. Overlooking the In our 12 year old nicely decorated home are two large bedrooms (one with a king sized bed and one with a queen sized), a large kitchen, a bathroom that will inspire your warm water baths or showers, a large lanai, lots of closet space and a lot of open space for you to spread out and enjoy whatever project you are into. The furniture and art are tasteful and add to the nice atmosphere of the house. Below the main house is a finished open walled basement studio space that is magnificent. Once a year my wife, Ki McGraw and I, lead a two month long Yoga Teacher Training session from this retreat center space. There have been many classes, festivities and gamelan performances at the retreat space. Everything about the whole house is eloquently simple. Nyoman and Nuadi always keep the place very clean. There is a small swimming pool, a warm outside shower and two decks to rest on between dips in the pool. The pool is more of a dipping pool than a swimming pool, however, the water feels very refreshing on a warm, sunny day. Beyond the swimming pool is a nice open walled pondok to get away even further. The garden and yard add more beauty. Though you cannot see the Ayung River you can hear it at night, along with the myriad of other wonderful sounds that come from the direction of the river valley. A TV, DVD player and lots of movies are available. There is a phone and all charges beyond normal usage fee will be the responsibility of the user. You can use the village line to hook up an external modem and operate your lap top from our home, however, the village phone line is so slow that it does not work very well for the computer and we cannot get a speedy service in this location yet. It is better to use one of many internet places in the next village over, Penestanan or go to Ubud to do your e-mail rather than try to use our phone line hook up. What is most special about our house is the location and the two people who work there. The Ayung River Valley houses the most expensive hotels in Bali, and only about two kilometers from our house is the number 1 rated hotel in the whole world Four Seasons at Sayan. The only reason this is mentioned is to give you an example of the beauty of the location of our house (dont worry that you could begin to feel encroached upon by the Four Seasons because there is a lot of vegetation and twists in the river between the two). The enormous, lush Ayung River Valley and the mountains you can see way up the valley are soothing to the soul. The sunsets you may have a chance to glimpse are magnificent, as are the night skies from our lanai. Nuadi and Nyoman have been working at this house since it was built and it is really their house that they have tended to with hard work and a lot of offerings. You will grow to love these two people who watch over our house.

beautiful, lush, enormous Ayung River Valley,this two bedroom rental villa is a real bargain for what you get. Here you will find a friendly staff of two, available for whatever your needs are. The man who works there is named Nuadi and he is a very kindly soul who was the former head of the village of Sayan. The meals that Nyoman cooks are some of the most delicious you will eat anywhere. Nuadi and Nyoman come with the place and they have been watching over this house since it was built. They usually work normal business hours and then go back to their respective homes at night, however, they will accommodate your meal situation to whatever is your desire. The house is located approximately 10 minutes from Ubud by motor bike or car, or an hour walk.
